Drawings in ink of Cambrian era creatures caught in their moment of death,  drawn from fossil collections worldwide. These creatures formed the beginning of all major animal lineages in the world today, although some pictured were evolutionary dead ends also. The Cambrian explosion (around 500 million years ago) was an evolutionary event that caused simple organisms to become more complex, developing spines, eyes and internal organs. The animals drawn for Stone Soup hang in a liminal state, both contained within us and in the walls and rocks around us, they are our ghostly ancestors from deep time.
