Radical Love l 2010
The Sun and All Its Eyes, a paper written for Radical Love – A Concentration Camp for Critical Thinking 2010
This performative paper was written about a trip to Knock, Co. Mayo in 2009 where 10,000 people gathered in the hope of experiencing a vision of the Virgin Mary. The gatherings were directed by the predictions of a clairvoyant and were criticised by the Catholic Church at the time. The paper discusses in a narrative fashion this impulse for a renegade religious ecstatic experience in a time of recession and child abuse revelations in Ireland.
The camp was concieved of by Joseph Noonan Ganley and Sam Keogh. Further information and a pdf of a publication of the event, containing all the papers including The Sun and All Its Eyes can downloaded here.
The project also involved Catherine Barragry, Patrick Bresnihan, Cormac Brown, Oisin Byrne, Mick Byrne, Rosin Beirne, Vaari Claffey, Clodagh Emo, Claire Feeley, Donal Forman, Joseph Noonan-Ganley, Sam Keogh, Ruth Lyons, Paul Maguire, Christopher Mahon, Andreas Von Knobloch, Alice Lucy Rekab, and Frank Wasser.
